Nestled between the glittering waters of the Mediterranean and the historic charm of the Old Town, Antibes has long been a place of inspiration for artists, writers, and dreamers. From Pablo Picasso’s post-war artistic revival to the literary elegance of F. Scott Fitzgerald, this Côte d’Azur gem has always been more than just a seaside retreat—it’s a gateway to the past.
In September 2021, I had the chance to walk the very streets that inspired Picasso, explore the musée that bears his name, and witness the stunning beauty of Villa Saint-Louis, where he once painted. The experience stayed with me and, eventually, found its way into my novel, Picasso’s Hidden Legacy.

Antibes Through the Eyes of Picasso
Few artists have shaped modern art like Pablo Picasso, but not many people know that his connection to Antibes was one of reinvention and discovery.
In 1946, Picasso arrived in Antibes and took up residence in Villa Saint-Louis, perched atop the ancient Château Grimaldi. The light, the sea, and the energy of the town inspired him to create some of his most powerful post-war pieces. Today, that villa is home to the Musée Picasso, where visitors can admire not only his works but also the very walls that once served as his canvas.
The artistic pulse of Antibes resonated deeply with me, and I wanted to capture this timeless creative spirit in Picasso’s Hidden Legacy.

Antibes as a Literary Setting in Picasso’s Hidden Legacy
In my novel, Antibes takes on a dual role—both as a city of art and as a place where lost secrets resurface. The story moves between:
2050s Antibes – A future where art historian Marilyn Hendrickson makes a shocking discovery: a collection of long-lost Picasso paintings, hidden for over a century. Who concealed them, and why?
1920s Paris – A golden age of art and literature, where Picasso, Hemingway, and the avant-garde redefined creativity. As Marilyn unravels the truth, she is drawn into a world where the past refuses to stay buried.
Through time-slip storytelling, Picasso’s Hidden Legacy allows readers to experience both the historical and future-facing identities of Antibes.

The Magic of Villa Saint-Louis & the Old Town
Walking through Antibes’ Old Town, I was mesmerized by its charming cobblestone streets, vibrant markets, and the shimmering Mediterranean coastline that has inspired artists for generations. But no place captivated me more than Villa Saint-Louis.
Once a serene retreat on the seafront, this historic villa has undergone a transformation and now stands as an elegant luxury hotel, seamlessly blending its rich artistic heritage with modern refinement. Yet, its walls still whisper the stories of the past—most notably, those of Pablo Picasso, who lived and worked here in 1946.
In my novel, Picasso’s Hidden Legacy, Villa Saint-Louis becomes a symbol of hidden truths, as Marilyn’s discovery forces her to rethink everything she believed about art, history, and destiny.
If you ever visit Antibes, stand where Picasso once painted, gaze at the sea as he did, and feel the lingering presence of artistic genius in the air.
Why Antibes is the Perfect Setting for a Mystery Novel
Antibes isn’t just a beautiful town—it’s a place where past and present blend seamlessly. That’s why it became the perfect backdrop for a story about lost art, hidden secrets, and the enduring power of creativity.
